Pete Morton, one of England's finest Songwriters will appear in concert at The Move - Center for Music, Art and Dance - on Friday, September 29th at 8 pm. The Move is located at 219 S. Main Street in Viroqua, inside Main Street Station.

We are lucky to have Pete Morton stop in Viroqua during his U.S. tour. As a much sought-after and popular performer, he's playing most larger cities like Minneapolis, Chicago, and New York. This is a rare occasion to have someone of Pete's caliber right here in our little town. Pete has been acclaimed as ".... one of the best the British roots music scene has produced in living memory..." by Froots Magazine, UK, and "Not only impressive... but a revelation.... totally original" The Guardian, England. And Rich Warren of The Midnight Special - WFMT Chicago said of Pete:
With each recording Pete Morton has jettisoned a bit more of the unnecessary frenzy until this CD, which reveals the naked diamond. It's just the voice and guitar of someone who has earned a place among the best singer-songwriters of the 21st century. The songs on this CD cover an amazing array of topics from politics to love, tragedy and comedy. All of his songs, no matter how dark, have a silver lining of optimism. His expressive voice serves his songs well.

Pete himself says, “I think I write songs to keep something inside me active when I sometimes feel I'm surrounded by so much that doesn't want it to be.”

Pete Morton is coming to The Move for one performance only on Friday, September 30th at 8 pm.

Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and children.

Folk diva Carolyn Cruso continues to uphold her reputation as an innovator on the hammered dulcimer with her new solo CD ‘Boundless”. She celebrates the release of this recording with a show this week at The Move, Center for Dance, Music and Art, 219 S. Main Street in Viroqua, WI, on Friday, October 6th at 8pm.

Carolyn Cruso is an "outstanding hammered dulcimer player who has gained local and national acclaim for her wonderful recordings and performances"-(The Quarter Note, Seattle). She is also a talented multi-instrumentalist equally at home on the flute, guitar or vocals. Her dulcimer playing, which is quite adventurous, has been described by reviewers and fans alike as mesmerizing and lyrical. With various Celtic traditions, jazz elements and the natural world as her influences she weaves a web of magic with her music and stories. In recent years she has also emerged as a powerful and evocative songwriter. Fans have been delighted by what Dirty Linen Magazine, San Francisco Bay Guardian and Victory Music Review, respectively, have described as her "splendid guitar playing”, “eloquent set of pipes", and "elegant melodies”. Open guitar tunings and vivid lyrical images bring rich texture to the music. As a performer she possesses a rawness that creates an inviting intimacy. On this Midwest tour she is celebrating the release of her new solo hammered dulcimer CD, ‘Boundless’, an adventurous collection of original pieces that pushes the boundaries of the instrument.

"Carolyn's hammered dulcimer playing is strong, intricate and dazzling in its self-assurance."

              ~Neal Waters, Dulcimer Players News

“Cruso brings multi-instrumental skills and an eloquent set of pipes to the table”

~Cheryl Eddy, San Francisco Bay Guardian

Admission is $8 in advance , $10 at the door and $7 for seniors and children.

Viroqua, WI… Project Fourth Stream, pianist Bill Neil saxophonist Tom Gullion, returns to Viroqua with special guest artist, Hanah Jon Taylor. The concert, on Oct 14th, 2006, will take place at 7:30pm at The Move in Main Street Station, Viroqua, WI. Following a recent collaboration in Madison, Project Fourth Stream has invited Hanah Jon Taylor, whose intrepid style, liquid tone, and remarkable fluency on flute and saxophone carry him to some wild, exotic realms. Taylor recently received Jazz Personality of the Year at this year’s Isthmus Jazz Festival and continues to build a very successful career as a creative artist.

Both Neil and Gullion will premiere new pieces that have been composed especially for Taylor. “We are particularly interested in expanding the spontaneous sound and rhythmic spectrum of Hanah’s presence”, says Neil. “His approach to improvisation has its impetus in story telling and he has a unique way of driving the rhythmic pulse that reaches the very root of time,” Neil elaborates. Fourth Stream will also debut their use of digital acoustic equipment. “We are imagining, in poetic terms, an acoustical environment that will expand our boundaries into the realm of interactive Musique Concrete” explains Tom Gullion.

The brainchild of composer William Neil and saxophonist Tom Gullion, Project Fourth Stream is the logical extension to the synthesis of composed and improvised music. In the recent past, Gunther Schuller made significant strides fusing classical compositional techniques with jazz. Their intention, however, is to approach this music from the perspective where the composition services to enhance the improvisation.

Admission is $12 in advance , $15 at the door

Patchouli is returning to Viroqua with a special evening of their masterful acoustic guitars and shimmering vocals at The Move on Saturday, November 4th at 7:30 pm.
At the Patchouli concert you can expect a night of upbeat music from this guy/girl duo ranging from guitar and marimba, to jazz influenced songs on guitar and string bass, to folk songs with guitar and African drums, to two guitars flamenco based instrumentals, to straight up two guitar and vocal arrangements of their original music.
It's what they call Fast, Forward, Folk. It's fast, rooted in current, world and Latin rhythms. It's forward, forward thinking, forward moving, bringing international artistry together to make something original and new. It's folk because folk means people. And Patchouli's music is meant to help people make it through their day.
The duo has toured relentlessly around the country for the past 10 years, performing in every state but New Mexico and Maine. This fall Patchouli is on tour supporting their newest release and 8th CD “The Light Behind You”.  The new songs were inspired by both their tours all over the country as well as many were composed in the Mississippi River Valley, where they live and spend their days off, reflecting on small-town stories and surroundings.

Listening to the bright and warm acoustic sounds of Patchouli, whether it’s dueling guitars on their namesake piece “Patchouli” or upright bass & guitar for a jazzy number “Ella's song,” or even inviting the audience to be “a part of the band” by handing out instruments to play along, the duo will bring you on an acoustic adventure you won't want to miss on November 4th at The Move. Come one, come all and bring the kids.

The Meat-ing Place Café will again serve wine, beer, and appetizers before and during the concert. And the Driftless Café –under the new and very capable ownership of K O’Brien and John Tully – will be open for dinner after the concert.

Admission is $7 in advance , $8 at the door
